Travel brings out my best self. I become curious about the world around me and enchanted by the stories of the people that I meet. As a travel writer, I'm searching for deeper meaning every time I hit the road. My first five years of blogging and travel writing stirred many dormant emotions and triggered meaningful “ah ha” moments of personal growth and evaluation.
I discovered the concept of personal power as a tool for even further self-awareness and inner fulfillment.
Personal power is never fully developed; it's a journey into yourself. Like your body, it needs exercise. Not a couple of times a week or randomly. Conscious training several times a day is the method that delivers development results. A conscious effort will develop habits that ingrain beliefs, values, and a sense of unity and balance.
When you know yourself, value yourself and stay true to you, you’ll find meaningful purpose in all areas of life. At the core of is the ability to bring the best out in those around you.
You'll become a true and authentic leader. Leading from a place of wisdom and not using positional power alone.
You can have positional power and personal power, but effective leadership is congruent with personal power. Likewise, you can be a driving force for good in your own life and those around you, even without positional power.

Strive to learn more
Commit to consistent learning and be broad about the topics you study. Study on your own and attend seminars and workshops to establish expertise.
The most important learning is to never stop learning about yourself.
Try new things, experiment, take some risks and put yourself into situations that make you feel vulnerable. Plunge deep into a hobby and get to know the interesting people who are experts in the field. As I delved into my writing hobby, I've been encouraged by new friends who are passionate about travel and really go deep into their life purpose.
One friend is walking the El Camino de Santiago (The Way of St. James) in Spain, which inspired me to watch the movie The Way, which added to my knowledge of long-range hiking and the history of that region in Spain.
Break from the mold and find what feels right to you. Learn. Embrace the world with an open heart. I've created friendships at writing conferences and in Facebook groups with people who are embracing a second career-oftentimes choosing to FINALLY pursue their dreams.
The brilliant shimmer in their eyes conveys their inner truths.
Practice Mindful Gratitude
Practicing gratitude is among the most positive habits you can develop. A gratitude journal can serve you in multiple ways for mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Writing and doodling in a journal has been known to create such positive impacts as better sleep, mindful and healthier eating, stronger relationships, and pure joy.

Own Your Authenticity
Authenticity is about being true to you. It is only possible when you have in-depth knowledge and know your strengths and weaknesses. You will begin to act with deliberate intentions that are in line with your moral compass. You will know your place and how to serve others in the best possible way. Authentic living is transparent and easier that holding your true self behind a facade. For years, I shielded much of my inner pain and pursued goals that were not within my purpose or passion. Through blogging and travel writing, I've become more open and authentic. I've lowered the shield and discovered laughter again.
